• U.S. jobless claims totaled 2.98 million last week, unemployment is close to 16%
Almost 3 million more Americans filed for unemployment last week.
Today's job loss figures bring the total losses over the last 2 months to 36 million.
The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits has been in the millions for 8 straight weeks.
No subsidies for workers in America, as some European countries have done during the coronavirus crisis. Even those $1200 Trump signed checks were bungled. And now, government and billionaires are pushing people to go out and work before it's unsafe. This is a recipe for more financial and human disaster, and needless death.
Here are today's figures from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims
Initial claims were 2,981,000 for the week ending 5/9 (-195,000).
Insured unemployment was 22,833,000 for the week ending 5/2 (+456,000).https://t.co/ys7Eg5LKAW
