As part of the honors course "The Art and Science of Lava" the attempt was made to form a shield volcano – Mauna Loa, Kilauea, etc. – by pouring in a "J" shape tube with the lava slowly emerging upward, overflowing, pooling, growing outward, etc. This was the fourth attempt, a success in terms of uniformity and effusion rate.
