Filmmaker Katherine Espejo has been documenting how the increasingly grim drought is affecting her home town in Central California, focusing on parts of East Porterville, where some wells have begun running dry.
The short film includes all-too-familiar before-and-after images of dry riverbeds and dead orange groves like the one shown above. She says:
There has been some state funding made available to those without water in the Porterville area. However, there are still several hundreds of families still living with dry wells.
This is part of a crowdfunding project by a group of USC students.
