My daughter specifically asked if I had packed this 6 qt dutch oven for an impending camping trip. It is super handy and surprisingly makes the best desserts.
This spring break we'll be using it to make baked apples, as we camp along California's northern coast. This dessert is so simple and delicious that it almost feels like cheating. All I do is core some baking apples, like Granny Smiths, and fill them with 1-2 Tbs of brown sugar and 1-2 Tbs of butter. I place them in the dutch oven and surround it with coals; wood or charcoal will do, on top and underneath. The legs on this dutch oven give plenty of space for coals and air circulation. Let the oven heat up for 20-25 minutes and then take a look. The apples should be caramelized and gooey. Top with some whipped cream to be extra fancy.
I've been using this same oven for over 15 years. I rarely go camping without it.
