Fatal Boarding is a fantastic space adventure that introduces Adrian Tarn, a perfectly textbook 'doesn't do things by the book' hero.
I sped through ER Mason's first novel, Fatal Boarding, in this, his Adrian Tarn series. Tarn reminds me a lot of the Stainless Steel Rat, or many of Stanislaw Lem's space heroes whose self-image is defiantly reinforced by equal parts skill and blind luck. With a spaceship disabled and the crew starting to act awfully weird, not to mention disappearing, it'll take everything Adrian has to make it the next novel alive.
Mason's writing style is quirky and highly entertaining. This isn't the best edited adventure I've read and picky folk might want to skip it. If you like creative new takes on old themes, I highly recommend it. I am hoping the second in the series is a bit cleaner.
