Fighting with a can opener is zero fun. This OXO locking can opener is my absolute favorite!
I had one of these for years, but on a recent camping trip a friend "borrowed" it. I was surprised to notice I missed a can opener and had to find a replacement!
With a slight application of pressure this can opener punches through the top of a can and locks in place. You then twist the knob and the can is cleanly opened. Pushing the lock release opens the grip and allows you to remove the cut free top and empty the can.
This model is error free. There are no problems with failing to puncture the can, losing hold of it and dropping it on the floor, or worries about odd can sizes and shapes making problems. Strangely, I also find this opener doesn't seem to get dirty or gummed up. I have to clean it far less often than other makes I've used.
