They do a variety of year-round programs for girls aged 9-12, and teach subjects from welding, masonry, carpentry, architecture, service and leadership; the winter workshop is on game-design:
Over the course of 8 weeks, Camp H girls will collaborate to develop board games for social change. Inspired by the “serious games” movement, this workshop will emphasize the principles of game design and the implications of games for education and problem-solving. We will begin by analyzing precedents to understand how players learn and develop empathy from game-based interactions. After identifying and studying a social issue, girls will learn basic graphic and communication design principles to prototype and produce a board game using multiple materials. Camp H girls will earn their Leadership, Graphics, and Design badges.
