I went out for sushi this weekend with friends. After plowing through edamame, someone started talking about this crazy Fear-Factor-oid game show they'd just watched in Japan, wherein women wear pork chop hats. They pop up their meat-adorned heads through holes in a platform like so many "whack-a-moles," and this big goddamned hungry toothy lizard crawls around seeking lunch in an agitated, confrontational manner.
"I don't know what's worse," said my sushi-eating friend, "being stuck there with a pork chop attached to your head — or NOT having a pork chop on your head. Would the lizard try to eat your head if your hat had no pork chop?"
Man, who knows. But lo and behold, on the same day, a Boing Boing reader points us to a Google Video clip of this very game show. Coincidence? Or are the lizard gods talking to us through the internet?

That's not a gameshow, it's a segment from a music/entertainmenment show. all those girls are in one girl band, with a bunch of members, called morning musume. they're the same girls from the clip of the group of girls getting scared and crying when a girl jumps out from under the t.v. when they're watching 'the ring'.
if you think japanese t.v. is insane, you should watch some of their music videos. morning musume is a group of girls with an ever changing cast run by a single producer, named tsunku, who used to be in a ginormous boy band himself. morning musume are all over in japan. you can watch their t.v. shows, shop at their stores, go see the touring childs subgroup (mini moni), watch them in gazillions of commercials (they have an especially catchy pocky jingle), and even play their ps2 and gba video games. they're insane.
