A Maine woman says she received more than 500 letters from UnitedHealthcare within a span of just five days.
Stephanie Lay says the letters deny claims she never made.
Ms. Lay says UnitedHealthcare sent the letters to her son Bryce, 19, in the nearby town of Windham, but were strangely addressed to Maine’s state Department of Health and Human Services… in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Her son is a young person with autism that limits his ability to care for himself, and he lives in a group home. She’s a hard-working mom who runs a small business.
Most of the letters were about the company denying a payment of $54 to her, WCSH-TV reports, and other letters say $0.
The claims go back to 2016, and Ms. Lay began receiving the letters on Thursday. She says she didn’t make any of these claims.
“I opened up my mailbox on Thursday and thought I’ve never received so many letters,” she said.
In five days, Lay has received more than 500 letters from one place: United Health Care.
“I thought I was being punked, that someone was messing with me,” she said.
It wasn’t a joke.
