Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) on Friday ordered two New York state agencies to investigate reports that Facebook could have access to a lot more of your personal data, if you’re a smartphone user, than anyone realized before.
That data includes information about health and other sensitive stuff, and it’s not just New York users who are affected. Perhaps we’ll see similar cases in other states.
The directive to New York’s Department of State and Department of Financial Services came after The Wall Street Journal said testing showed that Facebook collected personal information from many smartphone apps within seconds of users entering it, even if the users had no connection to the social media company.
