TicketMaster UK: 'malicious software' may have allowed thieves to steal customer data

Ticketmaster UK today admitted that an unknown number of customers’ data may have been stolen in a malware attack.

The ticket sales service found “malicious software on a customer support product hosted by an external supplier, and some of its customers’ personal or payment data may have been accessed by an unknown third-party,” reports Reuters.

North American customers have not been affected, Ticketmaster said in a statement today, which also says that 5 percent of Ticketmaster’s global customer base was affected by the data breach.

The ticket sales company said names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, payment details and Ticketmaster login details were among the data compromised.

Fewer than 40,000 customers in the UK have been directly affected by the data security incident, a source familiar with the matter said.

The company did not say how many people in total had been potentially affected.

It said it disabled the customer support product hosted by Inbenta Technologies across all Ticketmaster websites as soon as it identified the breach on June 23.
