Watch: 9-year-old girl's one-liners for The New Yorker cartoon caption contest are all winners

A 9-Year-Old Girl Enters The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest | The New Yorker

In early April, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The New Yorker writer Bess Kalb tweeted some cartoon captions that her cousin’s 9-year-old daughter, Alice Kassnove, had come up with. And the tweet went viral.

Although Alice, from New Jersey, is too young to actually enter The New Yorker‘s weekly cartoon caption contest – you must be at least 13-years-old to enter – Alice’s captions are right up there with the best of them.

“I am a professional joke writer for a professional TV show and I truly can’t touch any of this,” Kalb wrote on Twitter.

Yesterday The New Yorker posted this video on YouTube, which shows Alice coming up with her witty captions on the spot. The best quote in the video from the 9-year-old: “I don’t try to make it funny, or else it’s not funny.” Brilliant.
