Daphne the Duck escaped during the Cockburn Masters ocean swim competition in Perth. She was only able to make it about 5 miles, where she was discovered a week later hiding near Rottnest Island west of the city.
Via BBC: “The fear was that Daphne – who cost the club A$900 ($694; £500) – had blown off into the Indian Ocean, and would never be seen again. There were reported sightings of the duck as far away as Geraldton, 270 miles (440km) north of Perth.”
These ducks can get pretty huge, but they are at the mercy of the elements and can explode without warning.
