Science Channel's popular program How It's Made toured a paintball factory to see how the colorful welt-causing projectiles are manufactured.

Paintballs are made of entirely of nontoxic, food-grade ingredients. The same gelatin used in gummy bears gives paintballs' shells structure. Food dye is used to give the shell and paint color.
They sound as colorfully delicious as Tide Pods, but without the pesky toxic part.
