The Trump administration won't be able to order the cancellation the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program until the outstanding lawsuits about the legality of such an order have been resolved, thanks to a ruling by Federal judge in San Francisco.
As Naked Capitalism's Yves Smith points out, some of Trump's lawyers might have had the native cunning to anticipate this, explaining Trump's willingness to talk about a deal on DACA. Of course, Trump has never been able to attract top-tier legal talent, so maybe not.
DACA was among the issues discussed at a bipartisan immigration meeting on Tuesday.Trump indicated he would support what those in the room came up with, adding that he was willing to “take the heat” to back a bipartisan deal.
Trump at one point said he wants a “bill of love” to address DACA, and in another instance appeared to voice support for Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-Calif.) suggestion of a clean DACA bill while dealing with other issues, like border security, later.
