These intricate hand-painted mandala stones reveal the cosmic beauty of math

San Francisco-based artist Lina West creates these beautiful hand-painted mandala stones covered in gorgeous fractal patterns.

She writes:

I’ve taught myself how to paint these 3D mandala stones in one week. Each one has around 2000 dots on the top of each other. Sometimes it takes as much as 10 layers to achieve the 3D effect.

They are reminiscent of sea urchin shells, like this beauty by Jo Elphick:
