A large crowd came out to watch The Broadway Bridge in Little Rock, Arkansas be demolished. Either the bridge builders were very good, or the demolition team was very bad (maybe both), because the bridge withstood an impressive explosion.
Two days later and the river was still closed thanks to the fiasco, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:
Commercial traffic on a portion of the Arkansas River remained blocked Wednesday afternoon as crews continued to recover five of seven significant pieces of the Broadway Bridge's steel arch. The channel had been set to reopen earlier in the day, but Tuesday's delay in the span's collapse and unexpected factors in its fall caused crews to go past the scheduled 24-hour period for debris removal, said Danny Straessle, spokesman for the state Highway and Transportation Department.
