Jasmina Tesanovic (previously) and Bruce Sterling did a residency at The Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination at UCSD, working with the students on design fiction and futurism.
The residency culminated in a joint lecture (Sterling is always best when tempered by Tesanovic, who rules him with a no-nonsense, Balkan fist!), about their “Internet of Women’s Things”-based house of the future, Casa Jasmina in Turin, Italy. Tesanovic runs down the design philosophy and implementation details of the house, and then Sterling runs down the state of the union in design fiction, including the ways that it has influenced his writing, and where it sits in the wider world. It’s an excellent way to spend an hour this weekend.
