Treat yourself to this 1997 Jon Stewart-George Carlin interview

If you’re looking for a little creative inspiration, this clip from George Carlin: 40 Years of Comedy has some great lines about how Carlin approached his craft. It also feels like a living link in the history of American comedy.

Carlin’s countercultural voice was shaped by the cadence of language, and by studying rhetoric, which he considered stand-up comedy to be.

I’m an entertainer first and foremost, but there’s art involved here. And an artist has an obligation to be en route, to be going somewhere. There’s a journey involved here, and you don’t know where it is, and that’s the fun. So you’re always going to be seeking and looking and going and trying to challenge yourself.
