Beauty of firing a golf ball cannon at balloons filled with ooblek

How strong is Oobleck?

The guys at The Backyard Scientist filled balloons with a mixture of corn starch and water (aka ooblek) and cut them with a chain saw, and fired BB guns and golf balls at them to see what happened. They recorded the results on a high speed camera.

Ooblek is a non-Newtonian fluid that behaves like a solid when force is quickly applied to it. You’ve probably seen videos where people run across bathing pools filled with ooblek. But if you push slowly into ooblek, it behaves like a liquid.
