Springer Nature to release 100,000 titles as DRM-free bundles

Peter from Shelfie writes, “In a press release on Digital Book World, Springer Nature has announced a partnership with Vancouver start-up Shelfie (BitLit) to offer digital bundles on over 100,000 titles from their catalog.”

Shelfie is an app (Android/Ios) that allows readers to format-shift paper books to digital. Users take a picture of their bookshelf and the app returns a list of books from participating publishers. If the publisher has signed up (there are currently about 1200 on board including Cory Doctorow’s publisher Tor), readers can download free/nominally priced digital versions of their paper library. Although not mentioned in the press release, the Shelfie team has confirmed that the entire Springer catalog will be offered DRM-free.”
