This looks like a billboard from the movie Idiocracy, but it is Christchurch, New Zealand, and the property development company that owns it has refused to take it down after receiving complaints that it demeans female construction workers.
The billboard has a photo of a male construction worker standing next to a kneeling female construction worker. The shadow behind them is suggestive of a sex act. The text reads, “Getting the job done. Construction is coming alone nicely.”
After looking into the matter, New Zealand’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that the billboard’s “risque” ad fell under the industry guidelines’ humor provision.
Another billboard from Gilman Wheelans has a photo of a man with a hammer hanging from his tool belt. The shadow suggests that the man is displaying his copulatory organ. The text reads “Start erecting in Broken Run, Halswell.”
