The Top Spin toy that became an old friend

1I remember bringing this remarkable toy to elementary school, for show and tell, and amazing my teachers and fellow classmates. I also remember bringing it to Junior High and High School, and impressing exactly zero girls with it.

At college, I would sometimes spin it on my desk when I took exams.

Now, though, it’s an old friend—and I’ve always been a bit obsessed with it. You see, there is a soothing sound that the top makes as it zips all around its circular base, and it puts me at ease. I’ve had it for most of my life, and I’ve never had to replace it.

See Michael, a passionate collector of artifacts and designer of unique puzzles, at Boing Boing’s three-day extravaganza, the Weekend of Wonder, running Sept. 18-20. A weekend of workshops, tech demons and wild performances, there’ll be plenty of fun surprises!

And I haven’t gotten to the best part yet. The Top Secret Perpetual Spinning Top does the impossible…it spins forever!

That’s right. Forever.  As long as it is not bumped too hard and the battery doesn’t wear down. Forever! For the low, low cost of $11.95, you too can have the power I have had for over 30 years!

If you have a child, buy this toy. If you have a cat, and a fish bowl that you can put on top of it while it spins so that the cat doesn’t knock the top off of the base, buy this toy.

And in case you were wondering, the answer is yes. That is a skeleton, playing a game of pool on a levitating deck of cards.
