Here's a sexy, aspirational trailer, just released by Los Angeles-based aircraft firm ICON for the A5, an amphibious light sport aircraft beginning customer deliveries this Summer.
I have visited their headquarters, flown a flight simulator, met their CEO Kirk Hawkins, and found it all thoroughly cool. The A5 looks like it was designed by Apple or Tesla: sleek, confident, lightweight, and thoroughly 21st century.
About the video, Craig Bowers of ICON Aircraft says,
“The A5 was created to be the ultimate expression of the freedom, fun, and adventure of aviation. Having lived and breathed the A5 over the course of its development, I can confidently say that the finished product delivers on that mission in spades.
“I hope you'll be able to experience the A5 for yourself someday. In the meantime, check out our new video, The ICON Experience, which gives you an idea of what it's like to spend the day with the A5.”
It's interesting to see who they're imagining as their target clientele. Independent, fun-hungry and outdoor-loving wealthy people–I'm thinking Silicon Valley types–who have everything they need but a personal ultralight aircraft for impromptu trips up or down the coast, or to camping trips in the Sierras.
I want one.
