Jenner's new public identity as a transgender woman debuts on the cover of Vanity Fair.

Well that's quite an entrance.

Caitlyn Jenner, the transgender woman formerly known as Bruce Jenner, appears on the cover of the current issue of Vanity Fair. Shot by Annie Leibowitz, interview by Buzz Bissinger.

As a member of the generation of Americans who grew up with the macho athlete version of Jenner on Wheaties cereal boxes at the breakfast table, this pop culture moment is really blowing my mind in the best possible way.

In the mid-1970s, Jenner was a fixture on America's breakfast tables, as an athlete spokesperson for the cereal brand Wheaties.
