Watch a running cheetah robot jump an obstacle

MIT researchers built the first four-legged robot that can see an object as it’s running and leap over it autonomously.

It cleared obstacles 18 inches high at speeds of around 5 miles per hour.

“A running jump is a truly dynamic behavior,” mechanical engineering professor Sangbae Kim says. “You have to manage balance and energy, and be able to handle impact after landing.
