Boing Boing reader Shash posted this video in the comments about the Rothko painting post from earlier today. In the video, artist and illustrator Robert Florczak presents his case that art started to go downhill after the Impressionists came along. It’s an interesting argument, but I agree with Boing Boing reader p96, who wrote, “Mr. Florczak may have some moralistic bias polluting his argument. IMHO, art requires skill, but not beauty or purity.”
I used to dislike Jackson Pollock’s work until I spent some time looking at one of his large paintings in a museum. Now I love it. But, someone (Dali?) once said something to the effect, “Anything looks good if you hang it on a white wall in a museum.”
