Over at Mental Floss, we learn about the time McDonald’s met with H.R. Pufnstuf creators Sid and Marty Krofft, picked their brains, then went on to make “McDonaldland commercials that blatantly ripped off the Kroffts’ technology and feel.”
According to Hal Erickson’s book Sid and Marty Krofft, the ad men asked the Kroffts some pretty specific questions about their creative and technical processes, right down to what fabrics they used and how they got the characters’ mouths to move.
The Krofft brothers sued McDonalds and won $(removed),000. They also reported receive regular royalty checks from McDonald’s.
