Liz Ryerson is one of my favorite game critics — she has a great eye for the alien and oddly-beautiful design harmonies of game landscapes, and she specializes in the 1993 classic Doom, particularly its mods and maps.
A couple years ago, she did an in-depth video series for Doom's 20th anniversary, and lately she's been doing a brand-new series called Doom Mixtape, a series on maps for the game that is as soothing and provocative as a documentary of another planet, even if you aren't closely acquainted with Doom yourself.
Blah blah disclosure: I've worked with Liz before — I hired her to do art and an essay for Clipping Through, my ebook about my work close to game developers, released last year.
