Michael from Muckrock writes, “After months of legal wrangling, Hunter Moore, who ran ‘revenge porn’ website Isanyoneup, has agreed to a plea deal that will see him serve a minimum of two years and up to seven years in jail, as well as up to $500,000 in fines.”
Moore had long claimed that the nude images he posted were submitted by jilted exes or by individuals seeking Internet fame, but in court he finally admitted that many of the images the site posted were actually hacked from user’s accounts. FBI files detail how often poorly secured computers or phones were often the culprit, as well as password phishing and social engineering. After these attacks, Moore and his associates would blame the victim for the images release, claiming they sent them themselves and to “get over it.”
Moore’s associate Charles Evens is scheduled to face similar charges in March.
