Paris: Comedian who made joke on Facebook investigated for “defending terrorism”

France, land of free speech: The Paris prosecutor’s office said Monday it has opened an investigation on comedian Dieudonné M’bala M’bala, after he posted a joke to Facebook.

“I feel like Charlie Coulibaly,” the comic wrote.

That joke combined two names: Charlie Hebdo, the newspaper where two gunmen massacred 12 people, and Amedy Coulibaly, who prosecutors say killed four hostages at a Jewish market. Prosecutors say that by making this joke, Dieudonné was “defending terrorism.”

The comedian has previously been in trouble with government officials over of the content of his work. In 2014, the French president called for his shows to be banned because they contained anti-Semitic material.
