Photographer Daniel Schaefer captures the grief, anger, and resolve of demonstrators who took to the streets of Manhattan after the announcement that the police officer who killed unarmed black teen Michael Brown would not be indicted.

The streets of NYC thundered with the marching feet of demonstrators, all with the heavy knowledge that Darren Wilson, the officer who shot and killed eighteen-year-old Michael Brown earlier this year in Ferguson would not be indicted for his actions. Marchers' calls for justice, accountability, and their prayers for Brown's family filled the air and echoed across the island throughout the night. Protesters over the course of the night shut down Times Square, Union Square, and three major Manhattan bridges, flooding the city with the peaceful disobedience that so many had called for across the country last night.
