Gavin writes, “The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote Thursday on an important bill to strengthen the Freedom of Information Act, America’s open records law.”
The bipartisan bill, which is supported by transparency reform groups, would limit the circumstances when federal agencies can withhold information from the public. It would also require the government to create a central website that the public can use to submit FOIA requests to any government agency. The House has already passed similar legislation during this session, so the bill is poised to become law if the Senate can get it done by the end of the year.
