The Detroit News has an uplifting story about the David Whitney Building, newly renovated in time for its centennial celebration. Think reverse ruin porn.
Originally built as a medical complex in 1915 by Daniel Burnham's legendary firm, it will reopen after a $92 million mixed-use repurposing including shops, offices, and apartments.
The building had fallen into disrepair, as seen in this pre-restoration rooftop image taken by Flickr user Jeff O'Brien (KrHn313).
Curbed Detroit has a great series on the progress. Below, the beautiful atrium and skylight.
