2001: A Space Odyssey got a new trailer to celebrate BFI’s theatrical UK re-release for Kubrick’s genre-defining film. Even though every shot is already burned into our collective conscience, the trailer is surprising.
It’s possibly the best recut trailer for a mainstream sci-fi film since the Blade Runner 30th anniversary trailer. And while it may seem like a good idea at the time, if you do see this in a theatre as it was intended to be seen, dropping acid beforehand might not be a good idea.
For comparison, the original trailer is still mind-blowing, and it’s a great example of how the trailer as an art form has changed since 1968.
