Tens of thousands of pro-democracy protesters, many of them students, stayed out in the streets of Hong Kong early Tuesday, despite orders to disperse.

The demonstrators are keeping pressure on China as it faces one of its greatest political challenges since the Tiananmen Square massacre 25 years ago.
