If reports are to be believed, the NYPD’s massive surveillance dragnet, Twitter subpoenas, and DNA manhunt aren’t what outed the identity of the Brooklyn Bridge flag pranksters.
It’s this NYT article about two German artists who say they “are the ones who pulled off the stunt of the summer, hoisting two big all-white flags atop the Brooklyn Bridge last month, swapping them for the usual red, white and blue.”
Matthias Wermke and Mischa Leinkauf submitted a video to the Times as proof. Watch it here.
“This was not an anti-American statement,” Mr. Wermke insisted. Mr. Leinkauf added: “From our Berlin background, we were a little surprised that it got the reaction it did. We really didn’t intend to embarrass the police.”
