Armed pro-Russian separatists stand at the sprawling, burned site of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane crash in the settlement of Grabovo in the Donetsk region, July 17, 2014.
A Ukrainian interior ministry official said the Malaysian airliner MH-17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian militants on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard. Senior U.S. officials confirm the plane was shot down, based on intelligence capabilities monitoring the area.
The passenger jet did not report any problems before disappearing from flight radar.
Hundreds of bodies appear to be scattered around the smoking wreckage of this passenger jet, which crashed in a grassy field, a Reuters reporter said. At the time these images were published by the news agency, an emergency services rescue worker said at least 100 bodies had so far been found at the scene, near the village of Grabovo, and that debris from the wreckage was spread across an area up to about 15 km (9 miles) in diameter.
