Minutes after adopting dog, owner tries to sell it on Craigslist

qwertyuAn hour after adopting Sally Mae, a 10-year-old Jack Russell, its new owner tried to sell the dog on Craigslist.

Not only that, but the ad claimed Sally Mae was only 5 years old, and had to be sold because “my boyfriend& I is too caught up with work since we have 2 jobs each and she needs a family that’ll give her that attention. Please.”

But eagle-eyed fans of the Hawaiian Humane Society spotted that the same dog–and woman–appeared on its Facebook page and on the local craigslist, barely minutes apart.

The ad was flagged and removed, and Sally Mae was ultimately returned to the shelter. She has since been adopted by another family.

Puppy-flipping is not illegal, reports ABC News, and the contracts they sign with Humane Societies do not deter sales.

“We are just happy that the woman was willing to cooperate with us and bring the dog back,” said Jacque Vaughn, community relations director at the Hawaiian Humane Society
