The great jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver died today "of natural causes" at his home in New Rochelle, New York.
He was 85. Credited with pioneering the form known as "hard bop," the Connecticut native was influenced by the culture and music of Cape Verde, from where his family emigrated to the US.
