Tin House Books has brought out a new edition of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, illustrated by Matt Kish. Kish produced an incredible 199 illustrations for the edition, one for each facing page, working in ink, marker and watercolor. The illustrations — abstract, grotesque, sometimes psychedelic — are a beautiful match for the text. Click through for a gallery of some of my favorites, plucked from the Web (and if this is your sort of thing, be sure to check out Kish’s illustrated Moby-Dick).
