Top tech writers leave WSJ

Top tech reporter Kara Swisher is to leave the Wall Street Journal for new pastures–a place yet to be defined–after parent company Dow Jones failed to strike a deal. With her goes Walt Mossberg, the other co-executive editor of AllThingsD–though Dow Jones will retain that brand and its archives. Here’s Dan Primack at Fortune:

So what’s next? Fortune hears that AllThingsD remains in talks with two prospective investors, one of which is Comcast subsidiary NBCUniversal. Other names that have been floated include Bloomberg, Condé Nast, Cox Enterprises and The Washington Post Company. So far, however, no final deal has been signed. It is unclear how ATD would finance itself without a large media partner. We also are unsure about the future of the AllThingsD brand and archived content, both of which Dow Jones currently owns.
