Erik says: “A friend of mine is trying to offload a floating pentagon art project in DC. Free, I think, to anyone who wants it. Complete with speakers and sound system.”
The Polygonal Address System is a monumental pentagonal raft, 30 feet across, anchored in the Washington Channel, a federal waterway between the Waterfront and Haynes Point. It is entirely solar powered and spins under power of electric motors during daylight hours. A sound component is provided by loudspeakers which announce a wide range of historic sound recordings primarily from public addresses and protests made in the District. The PA System was inspired, in part, by Abbie Hoffman’s 1967 action “Levitate the Pentagon”. The automated public addresses audio program is audible from 10am – 7pm daily; the spinning occurs from dawn to dusk. We are looking for sponsors to help support the proper relocation or storage of the PA System. This is massive object and we are doing everything we can to avoid being forced to demolish it. Our installation permit at the marina is expiring at the end of the month and pressure is on to remove it from the restrictive, federal waterway immediately afterwards. Ideally, we will find a marina or public dock in the DC metro area where it can be used and / or saved for future exhibitions.
Polygonal Address System up for adoption
