Last night, I finally saw the film The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye about artist/musician and BB friend Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Psychic TV, Throbbing Gristle) and his late wife, Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge. Jaye tragically died of heart failure in 2007 while the two were in the midst of an ongoing life-art project to make themselves into a third “pandrogynous” being through matching breast implants, haircuts, and other body modifications. Directed by Marie Losier, the film was a beautiful, moving, sad, and inspiring love story. The documentary included footage from Gen’s long career, including bits of the fantastic 1989 video above for Gen’s daughter Caresse, then 6-years-old, and Fred “Sickmob” Gianelli’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced” (renamed “R.U. Xperienced?”). In the documentary, you can see behind the scenes footage from the making of this video, much of which was filmed in Derek Jarman’s garden.
