Here’s a pretty good idea for getting young kids to take their medicine: freeze it into little popsicles (I’m guessing this works even better when there’s a sore throat involved). The method illustrated here just uses disposable paper medicine cups and paper sticks, but you can get fancy with lollipop moulds, too.
Several commenters have voiced concern about the way that freezing medicine alters its properties, and mamayama offers some good advice:
To be certain you’re not decreasing the med’s effectiveness, you’re
better off asking a compounding pharmacist what they can do to improve
matters. I’m one…sometimes the only way to improve the flavor is to
use a completely different form of the medicine (eg: using flavorless
metronidazole benzoate versus ghastly bitter metronidazole [Flagyl]). A
compounding pharmacist has access to information on drug stability,
special flavoring options (sweetness enhancers, bitter blockers), and
experience that the average person does not, and their services are often
covered by prescription insurance.
