This song is made of sugar-coated cotton candy dreams and creamy pudding pie rainbows. I know it’s called “Please Ask for Help” and it’s probably about something sad or desperate or crybaby-like, but what you need to know is that it’s a boppity little new wave-y number that might loop endlessly in your head while you’re trying to sleep. At least that happens to me.
Telekinesis is mostly one dude named Michael Benjamin Lerner who is from Seattle but studied audio recording at Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Michael started writing songs at night in the studios at school and it appears that the spectre of Sir Paul might’ve influenced his songwriting and his sonic aesthetic. Michael is the rare/awkward/impressive singer who plays drums when Telekinesis performs live – you need some serious skills and Phil Collins/Don Henley mojo to pull that off.
“Please Ask for Help” can be found on Telekinesis’ excellent second record 12 Desperate Straight Lines.
