Japan: Prime Minister issues advisory on radioactivity and food safety

Strange times. The office of the Prime Minister of Japan has issued an update to the country’s Food Sanitation Act, in light of the “nuclear state of emergency” declared after the accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

We would like you to take adequate measures in terms of sales and other areas, to ensure that such foods are not supplied to the public to eat. Inspections shall be conducted by referring to the office memo “Manual for Measuring
Radioactivity of Foods in Case of Emergency.”

Here’s the notice from the prime minister’s office: Japanese, English via Google Translate, contains links to official English language press release.
