Disney creating tame version of killer Mission: Space ride

Disney is going to offer a toned-down version of its Mission: Space centrifuge ride at Epcot Center. The current version has killed two people in the past 12 months (one of whom had an undiagnosed heart-condition), and renders many of its riders sick (myself included — and I was hardly the only one with his head between his knees outside the ride). The new version will have all the rocking and other effects, but no spinning. Disney denies that this is due to the fatalities.

When asked if the change was being made because of recent events, Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty responded, "The answer is no.

"We are doing this for three reasons: to enable even more guests to experience the attraction; to provide an alternative that may be more suited for some guests, such as those who are prone to motion sickness or have other conditions; and to further encourage all guests to carefully consider and heed posted health warnings."
