Link to supremely bad music video. (Thanks, lady!)
Reader comment: Cody “codeman38” Boisclair says there’s some supremely bad code to go with it:
Just thought I’d let you know what Mac users get when they try to watch the “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” video on Yahoo… or any other music video on that site, for that matter: “We’re sorry, but you must use Netscape 4.7x to use this application on a Macintosh.”
Yep, that’s right. Netscape *4.7*, which was never even released on OS X and is only available as a binary for the ‘classic’ Mac OS. This means it won’t even *run* on a Core Duo iMac or MacBook– OS 9 is DOA on that platform. And all this because Yahoo wanted to use some weird non-standard Javascript to control their media player.
There was a hack out there to get around this by finding a direct link to the video (I even hacked together an AppleScript to automate things, based on a Windows tip someone had posted for that purpose), but of course, all good things come to an end; Yahoo changed their site with even further obfuscation to disallow this hack.
So, just for the benefit of other Mac users who want to see this complete train wreck, here’s a version that works perfectly well with QuickTime: Link
Reader comment: JeepMcMuddy says Honkeytonk Badonkadonk hates Firefox too:
Trying to watch this video on Firefox (v1.5) is a no-go as well! YOu get the following helpfull error: ERROR To use this application with Netscape, you must use version 7.1 or above. Download now. Please use the following error code when writing to Yahoo! Help. (Error Code: 12)
