Former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori, who was booted from office after a corruption scandal, will finance future campaign hopes with sales from an eponymously-named soda.
He has given his backing to Fuji-Cola, a new drink he claims will "quench the thirst of popular discontent". The former president's supporters want the drink to boost his profile and fund his campaign for re-election in 2006. Mr Fujimori fled to Japan in 2000 as his decade-long presidency collapsed in allegations of corruption and torture. (…) According to local media, Mr Fujimori's son Kenji has applied for Fuji-Cola to be registered as a trademark for the manufacture of beers, mineral waters and fizzy drinks.
